HOW IT STARTED
TWO FRIENDS, A CAMCORDER AND SMACK DVD ON THE TV.
In 2002 French Montana, then Karim Kharbouch, and his close friend Cams were watching Smack DVD and decided they could make their own. The first Cocaine City had Pee Wee Kirkland and Remy Ma on it, and French put himself in the mix.
They ran it out of the Bronx with childhood friends Brock, Droop Pop and Cheeze, the rappers who went on to form the first Coke Boys. It was built on interviews with established and up-and-coming rappers, street music and hip-hop beef, and it grew into one of the top-selling street DVDs of its time.
The series ran eight years, 2002 to 2010: fourteen volumes and a run of spinoffs. Several of the covers carried the Drugs On Music name.
